Musgrave Garage

Shortly after the end of WW2 Melia’s took advantage of the poor market for old cotton related premises and moved from their Middlebrook Mill garage to the ‘Musgrave Garage’, named after its former occupants. The old Musgrave works occupied a large pentagon shaped complex situated on island between Kay Street, Croasdale Street and Waterloo Street. Melia’s Transport bought the ‘Admiralty Room’, the building where the metal for constructing the boilers was rolled. The site is now occupied by a B&Q retail warehouse.

Melia’s Transport garage would be the building in the foreground to the right of the entrance. It was regarded as ‘too big’ for the company when acquired.
