By the late 1940s Melia’s Transport had become quite well known in the Bolton’s business community, and the family was well connected in local Catholic Church circles. It was therefore inevitable that the local newspaper would pick up the story. More surprising perhaps, was the amount of attention the case attracted: it was front page news for several days.
